Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Palette Swatches and Review

Since I finally finished my series of swatches of OCC lip tars, I thought it would be nice to start off my next post with swatches of something new. I do, but I do not, like this palette. I will get to those thoughts after the swatches. I will also be posting two looks from this palette in the next few days. (Here is a look with the purples and pinks.)

This palette is designed like the newer Poetica, Sinner, and Saint palettes. The palette itself is made of metal, and has an embossed design on the front. The back has the same sticker that all the other palettes have telling you the names of the shadows and what the ingredients are. Also like the other palettes, this one comes with an eyeliner pencil instead of the two dinky brushes like the old palettes did. The colors in this palette are:

Swan Song- iridescent pearl
Marya- pearl soft pink
No Regrets- hot pink purple sparkle
Drama For Yo Mama- iridescent purple
Mad Max- matte sky blue
Dublin- shimmery kelly green
Sparklehorse- shimmery gold
Altruism- shimmery vanilla
Wonderchild- electric blue

I will start by saying this palette is not horrible, I just don't like it. When I saw it on the Sephora website, I thought it would be amazing! Online it looks so bright and I just had to have it. When I received it in the mail and swatched it, I was disappointed. The shadows are much more pastel than they look. That does not mean they are not nice colors, just not what I was expecting or wanted. I do really like Mad Max (mostly because I love the movies) and Swan Song (which I am pretty sure it is a dupe for Urban Decay's Urban Glow Cream Highlighter in Moonshine). I did also like the color of Wonderchild (although personally I do not find it to be and electric blue) but you cannot buy just the eyeliner, it is only available in the palette. The more matte shadows are a little chalky and not as nice as Leather from her other palettes, for example. I also wish the "hot pink" was actually hot pink and not so red.

I do not think that the colors are really -that- original after I swatched them. A lot of brands have similar shades and I would recommend that you buy singles of the shades you like from an indie company instead of paying 36$ for this palette. I would also recommend if you are interested in some bright matte colors and shimmery pinks and yellows, take a look at the ELF 144 palette.

The one thing I do like about this palette is that it is completely different from the rest of her palettes and there are no repeat colors at all this time. It does not lend itself to creating only a dark smokey eye like almost every other palette. Every color is bright and youthful, great for a fun look to go out. The direction the line could go in from here could be quite nice. If the shadows were more pigmented and true to the color in the pan, I think another palette like this could possibly be a winner.

I did not like the holiday palette this year and I am not a fan of this one. If I am not a fan of the next offering from Kat Von D, I may stop purchasing these palettes. In closing, if you like the swatches or like to collect Kat Von D palettes I do not see why you could not buy this, otherwise, stay away from this one.

What do you think of this palette? Do you collect KVD palettes?
Would you wear any of the colors in this?
Were you somewhat disappointed by the colors this time around or do you love them?

You can purchase this from Sephora for $36

OCC Lip Tars - Nearly Neon Box Set

This is the last installment of my OCC lip tar swatches so I figured I would end this series with a *BANG* That's right today you get to see swatches of the Nearly Neon box set. This set comes with five of the brightest lip tars they have and a #009 Angled Brush. (I would like to preface this by saying I am sorry that all of the shots of the bottles are bad, my camera had a problem with the colors so they all look basically the same. I can promise you that the swatches show the colors much better.)

Beta- vividly neon orange
Queen- intense, nearly-neon red/pink
Harlot- vibrant cherry red with a fiery coral undertone
Anime- intense, no holds-barred neon pink
Hoochie- super bright true magenta

I wanted to save these for last because they were so bright which of course makes them best! I love every single one of these colors. The only one I don't see me wearing a lot is Beta, but I still love it anyway. Harlot is probably my favorite. Lately I have been really loving cherry reds and corals so to mix them is just amazing! I think anyone could wear this color and look great. Queen is also lovely and I think most people could wear this as long as they like a bright pink lip. I was upset at first that it was so pink, I imagined it would be more red. Once I got over my disappointment I feel in love with the color it actually is. I had the same problem with Anime when I received it. I thought it would be more pink but instead it is more purple. It is pretty for what it is and I can see me wearing this color a lot too. Hoochie is a very pretty, somewhat wearable pinky violet. I  could see wearing this for fun with a neutral eye.

What do you think of these bright colors? Which is your favorite?
Would you wear any of them? How would you wear them?
Did you enjoy a series on on brand/type of product? Would you like to see more of these?

Here are the links to part 1, part 2, part 3 and part 4 if you missed any.

OCC Lip Tars - Ornamental Orange Box Set Swatches

Sorry I have not been posting lately, I have been quite busy. Today I thought I would share the second to last installment of my OCC lip tar posts.

Cha Cha- creamy, pale tangerine
Divine- bright pink flamengo
Trollop- Pink, Cranberry coral
Reverb- yellow-based fire engine red
Banjee- freshly sliced mango

I was most interested in Divine and Trollop when I ordered this set. I do not like Cha Cha alone with my skin tone. Banjee is a beautiful orange. I can't seem many people wearing this alone, but I think it could look nice mixed. I like Divine. It is a nice light pink, and works a lot better for me than Narcissus. Trollop is my favorite of these five. It is a somewhat dusty pink and bet a lot of people would be able to wear this color without a problem. I have a love hate relationship with red lip colors. When I was younger I was looking for a perfect red. It is impossible. The goal for me now that I have matured and become even more creative in my search (and have so many reds now) is to find the perfect red for the occasion. Whether it primary, orange toned, or blue based I look for what I am in the mood for and what matches with everything else I am wearing.

What do you think of these colors?
Would you ever wear a color similar to Banjee in a normal look? How would you do it?
Have you ever found the "perfect" red?

December Favorites

I love seeing posts on peoples favorite products so I thought I would try it out myself. I find these posts to be a good way to see what products are really worth purchasing and what products I was lusting over that are just not worth my time or money. I feel these posts can really help people make an informed decision about a product. It is also fun to see what people really liked or used in a month.

Bath and Body Works - Secret Wonderland Body Butter
I have been using this every night this month. I do not know what it is about it, but I love it.

Glamour Doll Eyes - Midnight Light Show
When you foil this and use it as a liner it is just amazing! I have been using GDE Foil Me mixed with the shadow to create a winged liner, and then patting the shadow on top. It makes it so glittery and festive! I am going to test out Ladies Night since Midnight Light Show is not a permanent color.

OCC Lip Tar -Grandma
Ever since I saw this color swatched I thought, "gosh this is beautiful and I must have it!" This shade is very wearable, I think every skin tone and age group could wear this and look nice. I also like that this is a nice natural lip color with some punch! You can wear it everyday and feel pretty, not like someone's grandma, with this coral pinky color

Darling Girl Cosmetics - Petunia
I love wearing this all over my lid with an intense black winged liner! It adds a hint of color, and warmth without going overboard. Perfect!

Burt's Bees - Beeswax Lip Balm Tin
I cannot live without this.  It is winter here and it is just so dry, especially with electric heat in the apartment, that my lips often need more attention. This is hands down my favorite lip balm. I have been using it since my best friend is high school turned me on to it. The friendship didn't last but the love affair with this balm will never die.

butterLONDON - The Black Knight
I received this for Christmas and it is everything I dreamt it would be. It is a black base with pink, blue, black and silver sparkles! There are no words for how awesome this is.

Have you used any of these products before? Which do you love or hate?
What would be your list of favorites from the month of December?
This is my first post like this so let me know what you think!

OCC Lip Tars - Passionately Pink Box Set Swatches

Yes it is finally time for another installment of OCC lip tar swatches! I have another box set to share with you, this time they are all pinks. I would have to say this is one of the most wearable sets I have seen. Personally I would not wear Tone by itself, but depending on your mood or skin tone, you may be able to get away with it. The Five colors I have swatched for you today are:

Tone- slightly greyed mauve/pink
Narcissus- creamy, lavender-toned pink
Pageant- rich, blue-based pink
Pretty Boy- rich, saturated fuchsia
Strumpet- seedless grape red

Top- Tone, Narcissus
Bottom- Pageant, Pretty Boy, Strumpet
 Top- Tone, Narcissus
Bottom- Pageant, Pretty Boy, Strumpet

 Tone

 Narcissus

 Pageant
 Pretty Boy

 Strumpet

Swatches
All done over bare skin - and no lip liner

Top- Tone, Narcissus
Bottom- Pageant, Pretty Boy, Strumpet

Tone and Narcissus I am not in love with. I will probably use them more for mixing than just wearing. I think they look funny with my skin tone. Maybe if I mix them together I will have a nude wearable pink that doesn't look so crazy? Pageant is beautiful. I had seen swatches around and knew I had to have it.  I could see this being a fun everyday kind of color. Its not too bright and it certainly isn't dull. I would say this would be perfect for a day that needs brightening when the everyday hustle-bustle brings you down. Pretty Boy was everything I expected it to be and honesty, I like it better than Anime which was a color I just wanted to love but I only just like it. I was pleasantly surprised with strumpet. Online it looked like it was going to be more purple, and I was just not digging that. But after swatching it I may be in love.

Out of these lip tars I would recommend Pageant and Strumpet. I think they would work well with anyone's coloring and they are not too out there. You could wear them to work, school, out to dinner, to meet the parents, its endless!

What do you think of these colors? Do you think you could wear Tone or Narcissus alone?
Have you ever been surprised about a color like I was with strumpet?
